If you were to take five days off in late March, where would you fly? I'd probably take my neglected camera with me, so consider that during your deliberations. The winning recommendation gets a prize. I am indifferent to domestc or international destinations.

Australia

So I could catch Modest Mouse 3 times in a row!  I'm aching to see them again.

Changed My Mind

I only had a single night in Paris on my way back to Seattle while in The Netherlands last week but I'd like to have 3 or 4 more.  What a great city!  I never really had any desire to visit Paris.  It was on my home and allowed me to take a high-speed train so I thought why not.  Glad I did.  A picture from my travels... only had a disposable, sorry.

New Orleans!

I just wanna see what your pictures would look like.

Oh....yeah....Ditto on Naw'lins

Check out the "Knnection" Band on Boubon Street - the hottest R&B bar band I've ever seen.

I also have a friend that owns 60 acres of crayfish farms about 40 miles out in the Bayou that you could probably visit.

Orlando, to catch

Orlando, to catch Wrestlemania XXIV at The Citrus Bowl.

Nassau Bahamas

because that's where Mr. Onry & I married and the scenery is gorgeous and you can swim with dolphins and party with celebrities and snorkel and scub dive and ride the booze cruise and see a Junkanoo and lay on the white sandy beach and relax to the ocean crashing around you and the food is great and very cheap and the people are wonderful!

Or Italy!  I haven't been there but I'm going there this summer so I can't tell you a good reason to go yet!  It's just romantic, historic and I love Italian food!  LOL!

Wow, you're doing the full-meal deal.

I'm going in September because everyone in Italy is on vaction in August and June-July are peak tourist months. I've gone in May before, so I thought I'd try the other shoulder this time around. The link is to my Flickr account. The photos are mine.

I'll Bet September Will Be A Great Time

I didn't recognize your picture on your Flickr site!  I've never seen your picture with a full beard!  LOL!

The Basque Country!

You can drink Pecan and eat sheep cheese!

Plus the Basque region is steeped in awesome anarchist history. You could follow the routes of underground CNT unionists. If I ever get any money, thats the first place I'd go. You're very lucky to be able to leave the country. I've only been to Canada for a weekend four years ago.

My Grandfather grew up with Basque sheep herders in northern Nevada. The food is great and the history is so cool.

Ecuador, Beaches, Jungles, Mountains, Volcanoes!

Ecuador is cheap and easy. You don't need to know too much spanish to get around. Study up on the lonely planet guide and you will be fine. Oh yeah they don't have a currency anymore, they use American money. I was just there for three months.

Mr. Onry & I

are thinking of taking the 3 day cruise through the Inside Passage of Alaska this summer for our 10 year anniversary.  I'll be in Europe on the day of our anniversary, so we'll have to wait until I get back the end of July!

Philadelphia

I was thinking the other day how much I miss it and how it has such a bad rap. It's a great city.

What's the prize?

is it edible? I'm hungry.

»

Well, you better eat something because I won't be going until

later in March.

Have you considered Sripada AKA Adam's Peak?

From wikipedia:

"Due to its historical significance to the various peoples that inhabit the region, the mountain, itself, is referred to by a variety of terms.

Sri Pada is the term, derived from Sanskrit, used by the Sinhalese people in a religious context. This name is also understood in Pāli, and may be translated roughly as "the sacred foot". It refers to the footprint-shaped mark at the summit, which is believed by Buddhists to be that of the Buddha. Other traditions assert that it is the footprint of Adam, left by his first entrance into the world.

Shivanolipatha Malai and Shiva padam are two Tamil names holding similar meanings, but both refer to the footprint as being that of the Hindu deity Shiva rather than that of the Buddha."

"It is revered as a holy site by Buddhists, Hindus, and to a lesser extent by Jews, Muslims and Christians. It has specific qualities that cause it to stand out and be noticed; including its dominant and outstanding profile, and the boulder at the peak that contains an indentation resembling a footprint."

...could be fun...

Yep, I snapped that photo of the dunes.

They are right next to the Xantera motel, Stovepipe Wells, in the middle of the valley. Here are some more.

You Should Really

teach a photography course!  You have amazing photography skills and I want to know your secrets!

You are too kind

But you still owe me two shots of single-malt scotch. Attending to the "rule of thirds" and advice from this short book are helpful. It also helps to take a butt-load of pictures (though storage can be a bit uncomfortable).
»

Single Malt Scotch!

2 shots!  Yours!  Let me know when they're due!

My kids took a photography class at Capital High and kept talking about the rule of thirds.  Hubby & I took a community class at SPSCC one evening a week or a month and got nothing out of it!

I want to be able to take the best shots possible while we're in Europe!  I'm looking at getting the new JVC Everio video camera and hubby said he'd buy me a bunch of 4 gig cards for the digital...  But it just seems like so much stuff to lug around!

Any suggestions?

JPO, wait. Don't buy that JVC yet...

...I might be able to help you. Buying camcorders is a bit tricky right now.

1st off: Do you want to have standard definition or high definition and are you running XP or Vista?

»

Definition?

well, our TV's are all high def!  And we have XP on all our computers!

»

XP?

You know, there is a cure for that on your computer don't you :-p

OK. Hold off a bit and I'll do some research...

...you shouldn't buy just yet 'cause the newer models are coming out this spring.

Meanwhile, check out some Cannon and Panasonic camcorders.

They seem to be getting the HD (High-def) and HDD (hard drive) cams right.

I'd say wait 'till April, if you can. Then I can check out some new reviews.

I would expect to pay $1,000 or so, for a decent HD HDD camcorder. Beware, there

are big differences in quality when it comes to this relatively new technology.

Here's my suggestion...

...the Cannon HV 30. It's high-def & tape based.

butt-load/uncomfortable storage

Tokeland

I know it is only two counties away, but it is starting to vanish beneath the Pacific. See it now before it is gone.

The road between Raymond and Tokeland is worth a day trip from Oly. The Tokeland Hotel is the oldest inn in Washington, and it is supposedly haunted. There is also a small reservation casino nearby. The Tokeland seawall failed to hold back the waves this winter and the peninsula was under water for a bit. Buy a dry lot now and then stake down a houseboat.

But the whole area is pixilated anyway, doomed by global warming or not. Not as exotic as the other places mentioned, and you'll have to work more at being dazzled and entertained, but it will soon be a place that will be gone if not by tide then by development. Your camera will love it. It visually unique.

I was at St. Helens only a year and a half before that baby blew. When I visit Tokeland I wonder if I'm seeing another Washington place that will soon be radically changed by nature.

Go West, Young, er, Middle Aged Man!

I've stayed in that hotel.

So, what's the story?

When are ya gonna buy your ticket/s?

»

J'accuse!

Surely, you must have made your travel plans by now?

What's the prize and where are you going, man?

»

Okay, so I didn't make it out of town by the end of March

But I'll manage to get out of town next week. Robert W. wins the contest. I'm heading down to spend a few days in the Mojave. Part of the trip will include a detour to Calico, a lame "ghost town" attraction owned by the Knotts Berry folks. Before it became lame, my father lived there when it was a real ghost town. My plan is to find the settings of a few old photgraphs and update the images. If successful, I'll bring back some mouse-overs for you all to see. Thanks for all the suggestions.
