We need help at Franklin and Market right now. The police are now deploying tear gas or pepper spray (I'm not sure at this point) against the peaceful demonstrators. We need witnesses and people with MEDICAL SUPPLIES and Cameras at the port. It is 10 am right now and this could go on for a long time.

The police are now deploying

The police are now deploying chemical weapons against the peaceful demonstrators.

Ok, this made me laugh because the gas chamber was one of the worst parts of Basic Training.

It'll clear out any sinus problem, though.

»

Gas Chamber

That was definitely one of the worst parts. We had to line up in alphabetical order, and then say our name, social, and place of birth before we could leave. Of course it was one at a time down the line, so being an 'R' name I was one of the last and had to be in there for a while.

We had to line up in

We had to line up in alphabetical order, and then say our name, social, and place of birth before we could leave.

That was only the first part of it for us. Once we finished saying that we had to put our mask back down and wait for everyone after us to do the same.

The Drill Sergeants would let five out at a time once you finished saying whatever they told you to say (e.g. The Soldier's Creed, The Army song, the Barney song, etc.)

Mine was "Sweet Home Alabama" ;)

OK

You win. We did have to sing Anchor's Aweigh while we were waiting. I love that singing is included in every branch's gas chamber. Great trick, it keeps you from holding your breath.
»

Great trick, it keeps you

Great trick, it keeps you from holding your breath.

I'm pretty sure everyone took a deep breath before saying their name, rank and place of birth.

Phonetic alphabet

I got to Lima before my drill sgt suppressed a giggle and said, "ok, you can leave, remember flap your arms like a chicken." She was such a bitch.

The female RDC's

were the WORST. I think it had to with having to compete in a testosterone fueled world like the military. But man, they where rough. We had one called "The Hurricane" because while your division was at chow, she would come through and completely demolish the berthing, flipping over mattresses, throwing everybody's stuff everywhere, and then when you came back she would PT everybody for what seemed to be hours, and then made you clean everything up, but if you weren't doing it fast enough, or properly, she would PT everybody even more. Once she PT us so much condensation was dripping from the ceiling and the floor was completely soaked. Try doing push-ups on a wet tile floor without slipping, and if you slipped, you got PT'd even more. Oh, I don't miss boot camp.

Thanks Carmella

This is the first time I have seen Carmella post on OlyBlog.

Thanks for coming forward and letting us know what is going on. I always feel disheartened when a new person shows up on Olyblog and is attacked right away. So how about you all cut the Macho Bullsh*t?

Attacks and criticisms like theses belong on the Olympia comment section. Why do we let the same kind of abuse happen at Oly Blog? Has Olyblog turned into another hate-fest? If you are slow to catch on, these are rhetorical question.

that's not nice.

Being gassed is an awful feeling. Mostly it's psychological, it tricks you into believing that you can't breathe and that you're choking. If it gets in your eyes they begin to water uncontrollably to the point where you can't see anything. Depending on the method used to disperse it, such as the liquid seltzer bottle spray, it can cause a sever rash anywhere it touches on your skin.

I think we should try to remember that even if we disagree with their tactics or their politics, these are people, and they probably really don't deserve violence.

»

They don't necessarily

They don't necessarily deserve it Rob. I hope that they're ready for the consequences of their actions. Just get the kids out of the way first.
»

I get it.

This is just definitely one of those areas where my personal beliefs go against societal norms.
»

And I Find A Lot Of The Protesters

actions not nice too.  They knew the eventual consequences, have had plenty of warnings to disperse and chose to ignore it.  In fact, most of them appear to be almost welcoming and enticing confrontation.  So I say give them what they want.  If that means tear gas, so be it.  I don't see tear gas as violence, I see some of the actions of the protesters as violence.  Tear gas won't give you AIDS like spitting on another person can.  Being asked nicely several times to move by police won't cause harm like throwing things in the street at people will.  Leaving your children at home won't bring harm like bringing them to a protest will.

Not to mention the countless innocent victims in the protesters path.  I had plans to take my grandson to the Farmer's Market today.  He's very disappointed we can't go.  He didn't do anything to deserve his day ruined.  What about the business owners just trying to make a living?

You & I will just have to agree to disagree on this matter because neither will convince the other their opinion is right!  But I do appreciate your opinion and the way you stated it!  You're a whole lot different poster lately & I really like it and like being able to converse with you!  :-)

I'm not....

I'm not getting involved in this conversation right now, I just wanted to clear something up that has been a public fear for a long time. JstPlnOnry stated "Tear gas won't give you AIDS like spitting on another person can." That statement is not factual in any way (as of yet). There is NO scientific evidence that says you can get AIDS from spitting on another person, in fact you can't get AIDS from kissing. With that said if the person with AIDS has blood in their mouth then you have an issue, but still it would have to get into your, mouth, eyes, nose, ears, a cut, or some other form of entering the body.

I apologize for getting off subject here, but HIV/AIDS is a very big issue, that has had years of fear built up around it. The only way for us to move forward is to remove the fear and learn the facts.

»

The Fear Of Acquiring AIDS

is the reason spitting on another human being was made an illegal act.  That's why I used that statement in my point.  So you're right, there is no proof it causes AIDS, but there is enough concern to make spitting on another human being illegal because it could cause AIDS.

It's still disgusting

and if I ever saw a protestor spitting on anyone, you would bet I would out them big time. Spitting is what happens when the little hippies know they are losing and feel like they can't do anything else.
»

1) sitting in the street is

1) sitting in the street is not violent. If you would like to prove that the deomonstrators are violent you may go to the port and practice some citizen journalism yourself.

2) If you want to discuss countless innocent victims we should turn our attention to the WAR IN IRAQ.

3) Don't worry, I don't think anyone is purposefully spitting on anyone. But once again, if you want to be sure, refer to my first point.

»

Been there, done that

I don't like playing in the gas, and watching you folks make asses of yourself doesn't justify it for me.

1. Nope, not violent, but it is illegal, and you will be moved. Duh

2. Read here more often, try Rob W.'s posts, the War is constantly discussed.

3. Right, I'm sure some folks "accidentally" spit on the cops. Load of bullshit.

»

Maybe I was not clear enough

Maybe I was not clear enough for you. i don't believe that anyone has spit on the police at all. It's sad that I am taking the time to discuss this petty issue of spit with you right now.
»

Well

If you have something better to do, feel free to not respond. Did I ask a question? Word of mouth said that protesters have been spitting on officers. I tend to believe that account given some of the folks down there who participate in the protesting.

norm, norm, norm

Please don't make veiled accusations about my level of involvement at the port today. I am able to answer these comments of yours because I am doing support work for the demonstrators that depends on my being at home. Please stop sassing and passive-aggressively insulting me.
»

I wasn't going to come back here

but I had to for this one.

I was not, and would not question your level of involvement at the port. I'm not questioning your level of support. Until you posted this comment, I had assumed you were down at the port with everyone else and taking little breaks. I'm assuming this line: I tend to believe that account given some of the folks down there who participate in the protesting. is what you are talking about, but I'm really not sure how you read that. I'm not sneaky enough to be veiled or passive agressive, I tend to be moronic and blunt, ask anyone I've dated.

So, in short, I'm sorry you felt insulted in a passive agressive way, but that wasn't my intention. Cross my heart.

Maybe if the demonstrators

Maybe if the demonstrators had served their country they'd be able to last a little longer...they could sing a David Rovics song in the cloud.

I wouldn't last...

Definitely not attractive after your nose opens up like a snot-valve. Nothing like drueling all over yourself for 10 minutes or so. Good times I tell ya.

oh man

I've never seen so much snot in my life as I did after my 80 man division went through the chamber. They had a big garbage can set up outside for us to "use".

ummm. . .

The fact that the comments are meant as joking and seem a bit "flippant" really shows a lack of understanding, and empathy towards fellow human beings.  Violence is NOT funny, especially when done by *OUR* Government against non-violent, non-threatening people.

Bah!

I Don't Know Why But

Roll on

18-Wheeler, Roll on!!

It's too bad the truckers had to put up with the worst part of the Olympian citizenry.

»

i am trying not to engage with you but

norm, you are so mean.
»

I'm really not that mean

I'm just not at all proud about some folks in Olympia. Go watch the video from the Olympian, and you'll understand why. Folks throwing things in front of cars to keep traffic from flowing. THEN, when confronted by the drivers the protestors try and defend their illegal actions? The folks protesting today are not the best part of Olympia. I'm not saying it to be mean, I'm saying it to make sure that the folks who were down there know how others feel about them at this point.

That's it!

Okay olyblog friends. I am so frustrated with some of the mean-spirited and presumptuous comments here.

Are you actually comfortable cheering for people to be brutalized? (for practicing nonviolent civil disobedience?)

Instead of proselytizing people with rumors of spitting (and other accusations) and assumptions about who the protesters are, why don't you make some informed decisions for yourselves?

Tomorrow you have the opportunity to go to the citizens tribunal to witness accounts by protesters on what took place this week. It's at 6:30 at Traditions Cafe.

EG that was awesome. I was smart enough to stay away (and besides, we had things to do) but I wanted to post a Thank You OPD thread. Within seconds of it going up "someone" saw fit to remove it. I guess he didn't like the part where I talked about a family friend, a West Point Graduate, who was deployed a couple weeks ago.

Upon reflection, I'm alright

Upon reflection, I'm alright with it. Apparently the sayings of Merwyn Haskett are so dangerous the community must be protected. People might have to get therapy otherwise.

Now I'm off to All Freakin' Night...unless the streets get blocked again.

They aren't dangerous.

You do an amazing job of selling yourself off as some sort of oppressed social spectator genius though.

Your comments.. much like mine at times.. are self serving and trite. Like those a young teenager would write in a journal, that everyone has to see.

The derisivenss of many of today's posts

is depressing. Sadder still are the expressions of satisfaction about protesters "getting what they deserve." I saw people ernestly trying to do something they thought was right. You people are free to express how you disagree with them or their methods, but I don't know why you feel the need to express your joy about their pain.
