What You Got?! Fest?! is THIS weekend!

What You Got?! youth arts festival happening this weekend at the Capitol Theater. WYG provides an annual space for youth to showcase their creativity through talents in music, film, spoken word and visual art at a local level in the form of a weekend festival.

This year's fest is happening this coming Friday and Saturday and will feature awesome workshops by people from Food Not Bombs, Stonewall Youth Speaker's Bureau, Teen Council, and the Film Ranch. We'll be screening films by YAYA Media, Ittai Orr, The Seattle Girl's School, and more. Both nights will feature great band lineups with bands like The Vintage Valkyries, The Numbzkullz, Hi-Five, DEK, Anna Bri, Moon Runners, and more!

It's going to be an awesome fest! Tickets will be on sale at the Theater box office, and they'll cost $5 per day, or you can get a full fest pass for $8. Even better, you can get a full fest pass FREE when you put in two hours of volunteer work! To get signed up for volunteer shifts, contact Maxine Peabody at (360) 701-1330 or sign up at the Capitol Theater!

“Lost Film Fest is my favorite film event ever” - Sam Green, dir. The Weather Underground.

...hosted by vj SCOTT BEIBIN (co-founder of the EVIL TWIN BOOKING AGENCY, HOLLYWOODCAN SUCKIT.COM, and founder of BLOODLINK RECORDS), LOST FILM FEST is a mix of live performance and rare short films featuring pranks by culture jammers like THE YES MEN, sexy-smash-it-up riot footage, illegal art, media archaeology, clips censored by the mainstream media, video re-mixes, and so much more. Lost Film Fest Travels the planet year round. You never know where it will turn up next! Revolutionaries and “the kids” all agree: Lost Film Fest “is better than bad, it’s good!”. This jam is about smashing the illusions cast by Hollywood, the Pentagon, and FOX News. Yeah! Lost Film Fest: resurrecting Abbie Hoffman since 1999.

At the Evergreen State College in Lecture Hall 1 (right next to Red Square) from 7-10pm.

I went to the Capitol Theater tonight and saw "The Ground Truth" (trailer available at site), a film about the experiences of soldiers and their families in relation to the Iraq war.

It was profound, "devastating" (ref NYT review), moving, emotional and educational. If you're interested in what's happening with the war on Iraq, this film is for you. If you are, or a loved is, considering a military career, then you owe it to yourself, or him or her, to see this film.

In 2002 SESAME, Students Educating Students About the Middle East, was created by students returning from Palestine after volunteering with the International Solidarity Movement (ISM) and in response the looming threat of war on Iraq. Rachel Corrie's death and the beginning of the occupation of Iraq occurred within days of each other. Since then SESAME has expanded to include solidarity, advocacy, education and action on issues surrounding racism, human rights and foreign policy.
