So, here is an idea:

Olyblog should buy The Olympian.

Last weeks reporting about the lay-offs at The Olympian has already resulted in a decrease in local reporting.

The New York Times reports today about some grim times ahead for print papers.

I'm sure the McClathy Company would be open for negotiations in times like this.

This is no hostile takeover, but a daylight dreamers idea of a community taking back it's voice.

Err, duh, we don't have any money, duh. Yeah, yeah, I know - I'm not being realistic, just dreaming.... come one.... dream with me a little.

Where could we take this??

This is just a note in case anybody has questions about the recent change of focus to a more hyperlocal model than OlyBlog has been: we are not encouraging a vacuum of national and international content on OlyBlog, rather, we would like people to do a little legwork on the matter and tie such content into hyperlocal matters.

Did you recently watch a movie you want to share with everybody? Excellent. Please tell us if we can get it at the Library, or Rainy Day, etc. A recipe? Where can we find the ingredients? We want to encourage the development of OlyBlog as a place to tie our community together.

I'm taking a break from Blog Local and invite folks to create their own form of this beat. You can follow the Favorite Olympia Blogs list here on the OlyBlog sidebar and report back to us, you can follow Oly Bloglines, or you can create any process and means of expression you like.

You might want to sharpen your focus on particular themes - there is a wide variety to choose from. You might want to regularly do more general surveys of the current local blogging pulse. You might have some ideas to share on how local blogging works or you might want to focus on what you find quirky and intriguing.

I've found it very rewarding to share link love and highlight the work of local bloggers.
