GenderJam: LaDIY and Trans Fest

GenderJam Festival will take place at the Procession Studio and other locations in downtown Olympia November 20-22!

About the festival: GenderJam is a not-for-profit radical community event. We recognize that we live in a society full of power imbalances along lines of race, class, gender, sex, sexuality, age, physical ability, size and other diverse identities. Though these differences can feel intimidating, we also affirm that we share common experience that inspires us to fight these norms. As we work towards ending sexism in our society, we feel it is essential to build community and experience each other in new ways, loving and supporting one another. GenderJam’s intention is to build community and empower women, female-bodied or identified people, transfolk, queers, and genderqueer people. We hope to do this by sharing skills, listening to each other, performing for each other, working together, learning from one another, and affirming and lifting each other up. We hope to create spaces for dialogue, motivation and creativity, and to practice open communication and love for one another in the process.

Masterworks Choral Ensemble Presents: Summer Show Tunes

June 20, 2009 - 7:30pm
Pre-Concert Lecture - 7:00pm
Washington Center for the Performing Arts

Great stories, whether they take the form of literature, film or theater, win awards. The Summer concert is devoted to show tunes of Tony Award-winning musicals-great stories and great songs from "the pinnacle of theatrical excellence."

We'll sing our way through standard themes of awakening love and the passage of time, from South Pacific to Rent. We'll even swing through Avenue Q, Spamalot, and Jersey Boys as we touch on the upbeat and provocative themes of modern musicals. This is a tribute to the composers and lyricists who have brought social consciousness to Broadway to educate, enlighten, and entertain.
