His actual work phone number and email address was posted in the comments section at The O tonight at 10:45 PM. I found it at 1:35 AM and tried to call a human being at the O to request the removal of the info and the poster be banned for doing it but could only get voicemails in every department. Larry XXXX (360) 943-XXXX XXXXX@thurstonXXXX.org Posting his or anybody elses home or work information is completely unacceptable in any forum without his permission to do so. This poster did so under the assumption Larry is even a poster in the comments section. So many posters are accused of being Larry that even if he had the spare time to be all of them it still wouldn't be enough time! This really saddens me that somebody would stoop to such a low out of spite and revenge because someone doesn't hold the same values or opinions as the vicious poster.

In light of the Daily O's top story today, I thought these should be shared. Olympia's finest hard at work!

What should be done to improve relations between The Evergreen State College students and Olympia police?
This is so in line with the negativity seen online in the comment section of the Olympian. All the instructors are anarchists? Really? Way to slip in that senseless accusation, Olympian. The Olympian consistently allows commenters online to call for people to be attacked, punished, "run over" and other horrible things. This seems calculated to increase that reactivity rather than propose viable solutions. Is this how the Olympian chooses to sell its coverage?

It's not all bad work coming from our esteemed corporate daily. Reporter Christian Hill and photographer Steve Herppich spent quite some time at Camp Quixote the last few days and you can see the results. I think they did a commendable job and I thank them for their effort. And now is an excellent time to remind all that the camp can always use volunteers. Drop us a line at www.campquixoteoly.googlepages.com Blessings +

The Olympia city council is rightly shy of opening up debate over the repeal of Olympia’s Anti-nuclear ordinance. As the editorial of March 1st correctly observed “they (the council) are loathe to even bring the issue up because it is seen as a divisive, national issue that will only drive wedges in the community.” Such a debate will be divisive and distract the council from much more pressing issues. And yet the editorial goes on to call for just such divisiveness. Why this apparent contradiction? Money my dear reader, the ethics-free pursuit of filthy lucre as performed by our paper of record the Daily Zero. Witness the latest case study of our so-called newspaper’s practice of the fine art of yellow journalism. Here are a couple examples. I’m sure my readers can name at least one issue the Olympian has mangled or chosen not to cover at all.

Stryker vehicles that returned from Iraq last November are being repaired and restored for "combat readiness" according to The Olympian. Do you want the war to stop? If so, what are you doing about it?

[edit 12/29/07: it was published today.] I sent a letter to the editors of The Olympian 16 days ago and it has yet to be published. I received a call from Mary at The Olympian to verify that I had indeed written the letter. I was then informed that my letter would be considered for publication. I usually have a lot of emotion that goes into my letters to the editor, which can make it difficult to compose them clearly. This letter was no exception, and it definitely suffers from a lack of clarity in a couple spots. But, being a daily reader of The Olympian's letters to the editor, I know that clarity is often times not enough reason for a letter to go unpublished. read more

The Sunday editorial from the Olympian is the true embodiment of development and conservative interests: City Council must move in new direction There was a mandate for nothing as far as I'm concerned. The job of a city commission is to represent the will of it's constituents. And as history has shown - those constituents that are organized and make things happen are those that are effective. Mike Oakland needs to crawl back under the rock he emerged from. I for one will miss Laura Ware and TJ Johnson on our city council and hope the council picks a progressive to fill Doug Mah's empty seat. They need a more diverse council - a less diverse council will be the result if someone is picked that the Olympian supports. Howard Rosenfeld |
