p.s. I notice there are what sound like some very brief cut-outs in the audio, I'm not sure what's up with that - probably just a technical issue with the recording software/hardware.

Radio Show

My friend Bruce and I are attempting to start up a radio show on KOWA 106.5 FM, which has a studio at Media Island in downtown. Here's a link to the audio from a trial show that we did a couple weeks ago. Topics are far and wide-ranging, generally including society, politics and economics, from Earthquakes and Gaia consciousness to media, to unjust marijuana laws, and this particular show, our first one, was somewhat rambling (or free-flowing.)

Taking on the State

Interview by CS Song on KPFA, Pacifica Radio's Against the Grain, with Stuart Archer, author of Army of the Republic:

Listen to this Program:
Tues 1.26.10| Taking On The State | Against the Grain: A program about politics, society and ideas

In Stuart Archer Cohen's novel The Army of the Republic, unbridled privatization spurs grassroots activists and underground militants to directly confront the power of the State. Cohen talks about organizing, revolution, corporate power, and other issues addressed in his book. Also, Gordon Edelstein directs Athol Fugard's Coming Home at Berkeley Rep.

Free Radio Olympia Needs a New Home!!!

As our beloved community members and listeners may be aware, Free Radio Olympia 98.5 FM (FRO) was recently served a warning by the Federal Communications Committee (FCC) to cease broadcasting without license. According to the federal government, it is illegal to broadcast over the radio waves without their permission. When they permit a station to broadcast, that permission comes with restrictions. One must hold one's tongue and keep one's words within an acceptable, passive bubble of mediocrity. Only certain music is acceptable. Only certain things can be said. Information and opinions are altered, dulled down, rendering them hollow and half-alive.

School Bullying with Dawn Menken

Here's an interview by Will Hall, host of Madness Radio, with Dawn Menken. It's about bullying:

I saw Dr. Otownavigate at this past week's City Council Meeting, where he plugged his upcoming show. Maybe you will consider tuning in to check it out. Might be interesting.

Cop Talk Dicsussion of "Problem" Relating to Washington State Law Enforcement Memorial

Washington State Law Enforcement Memorial Foundation President Brian Johnston appeared on the September 13th installment of the Seattle talk radio program, Cop Talk. You can find an mp3 recording of the 9.13.08 program on the website (scroll down). Johnston is the first guest.

In a short interview with Cop Talk host Ron Conlin, Memorial Foundation President Brian Johnston expressed opposition to the isthmus rezone proposal.

Brian Johnston, President of the Law Enforcement Memorial Foundation, expressed explicit opposition to the isthmus rezone based on the situation of the Memorial overlooking Capitol Lake, Heritage Park, and the Puget Sound Budd Inlet.

The Memorial is intended to be a place where visitors and survivors can experience a degree of serenity and peace. That sense of serenity is furthered by views that are unobstructed and unfettered by massive commercial developments.

Another of Olympia's radio gems

Olympia has many things that make it special. Among them are the local radio station, KAOS, FRO and KBRD to name a few.

My daughter got me started on KBRD. she refers to it as "motivational music." It has no DJ even, just one song after the other. I told my girl how much I liked being exposed to music I wouldn't usually listen to but wished I could find out what the songs I liked were. She informed me that on the website there is a schedule for the current month. I mean really where are you going to hear a pairing like this:

Becky Deem, She Was A Gamblin' Girl 041205-001 03:03:0 Artist - Leadbelly

Don't Get Around Much Anymore 045320-001 03:22:0 Artist - Maxine Sullivan

Besides the music I like the fact that there are no commercials or even pledge drives. But they could use some money to keep the website online so help 'em out. Then you will be able to satisfy your curiosity when you listen and ask yourself, who is it playing that killer swing tune? So tune in to AM 680 to listen sun up to sun down in the Olympia area or KBRD.com to stream 24/7 worldwide.
