National Day of Rest Legislation Seminar - State Capitol Columbia Room - October 5

Will a law mandating a "National Day of Rest" stabilize the global economy and restore quality time for families across this nation and the world? Maybe you've never heard of such a bill, this "National Day of Rest." Maybe you might think it would be a welcome relief by having a day off from work once a week. Some of you may have heard of this soon coming legislation and are thinking, "There's no way that kind of legislation will pass. It would violate too many of our constitutional liberties. Well, before we're quick to jump onto either of those bandwagons, let us consider how quickly laws, such as the "Patriot Act" (and others) went into effect because of the unprecedented crisis of September 11, 2001. Many of us watched in almost disbelief and horror as those two planes crashed into the World Trade Center destroying them and thousands of lives. Many of us watching probably could never have dreamed that the events of that magnitude would have ever taken place in this country. You might have thought, as many did that day, "What is going on in this country? What is going to happen next?" So, before we're quick to say that a "National Day of Rest" bill could never pass in this union, I'd like to ask you to consider the events of "9-11" and the "Patriot Act" again in your minds.

NATIONAL DAY OF REST LEGISLATION - PUBLIC SEMINAR

Will the "National Day of Rest" bill stabilize this economy and restore "quality time" for families across this nation and the world? Have you still not heard of this proposed legislation, yet? Will it be a positive change for our families, this country and the global economy? Will our personal liberties have to be sacrificed in the interest of national security in order to sanction it? Come to this free public seminar to understand how today's increasing global crises are setting the stage for this very piece of legislation to soon become law, affecting every citizen of the United States and eventually the world. DATE: August 22 LOCATION: Lacey Timberland Library (conference room) TIME: 2 to 4:30 p.m. CONTACT: Liberty of Conscience Ministries PHONE: 360.402.1154 EMAIL: libertyofconscience@gmail.com

The American Identity Kick-Off Convention

A young student from Olympia, Washington was given an english assignment to define what the American identity is. It seemed simple enough to spout the rhetoric of centuries past: "Life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness," throwing in a few "freedoms" here-and-there. Unfortunately, that is not the reality of what is uniquely modern America. The perception of today's America abroad is stained with the wars and poorly operated foreign relationships of days-gone-by. There are starving youth in Africa, and wounded masses on the streets of Iraq and Somalia who see us Americans as their enemies. They are right. We have turned our backs on the wrong-doings, leaving countries torn apart for nothing more than money and oil. We are changing this reality. The American Identity resolves to wash the blood of innocence off our golden name, and bring an ultimate peace to our beautiful world. June 11, 2009 from 7:00pm to 8:00pm The Loft on Cherry 525 Cherry Street SE Olympia, Washington 98501 *We are going to set a strategy for the actions we are prepared to take. I want to make take this group all the way, and really change the world. It's going to take a village to raise this baby up! (Suggested donation of $5 per person to offset the rental of the space.) Guantanamo Detainees' Release Ordered

Interesting and informative news article:

Chinese Muslims Ordered Released From Guantanamo

A federal judge yesterday ordered a small band of Chinese Muslims being held at the Guantanamo Bay military prison released into the United States by Friday, rejecting the Bush administration's contention that it could detain them indefinitely without cause.

It was the first time a U.S. judge has ordered the release of a Guantanamo Bay detainee, and the first time a foreign national held at the facility in Cuba has been ordered transferred to the United States.

U.S. District Judge Ricardo M. Urbina issued his ruling in dramatic fashion from the bench in a packed courtroom, saying he was ordering the release of 17 Uighurs because the government provided no proof that they were enemy combatants or security risks. Under the order, the men will live with Uighur families in the Washington area until a more permanent situation can be found.

Do we take freedoms for granted?

Olydowntowner got me thinking....  usually he gets me angry so this is probably a good thing!

Some will focus on what is wrong with the United States, and please don't get me wrong, there are plenty of problems in this country.  But I still think we have a pretty solid foundation to work with...

Consider what you can do in this state for instance.

Free speech is a carefully protected right.  Exercise it at will, just be prepared to accept the consequences of your actions.

Worship as you please.

Vote as you please.

Walk down the street wearing a loaded handgun.  Get hassled?  There are plenty of good people who will come and back you up.

Travel within your own nation without permission.  It is getting tough to get out or get back in, which is getting stupid, but we can address this and change this as a nation if enough people get upset.

I could go on and on and on I'm sure.

So for just a moment, can we please focus on any freedom you have enjoyed and maybe even pushed a little to it's utmost?  You know what I do, and how I enjoy my freedoms and rights.  What do YOU do?  Post pics, push the envelope here...  just don't knock another's rights for just a moment.  We all enjoy the same Constitutions (state and federal) and the same protections therein.  It's a sunny day, let's have a sunny rights thread!  If nothing else, consider how wonderful Olyblog is, that we can freely publish on topics that would get us arrested elsewhere...

Then we can return to our regularly scheduled "What is screwed up and how to fix it conversations" :-)
