“The public option is a cruel and cynical hoax.” – Bruce A. Dixon
By now it should be abundantly and tragically clear that the current health care debate – most notably the dispute over the so-called “public option” – is not going to result in meaningful health care reform any time soon. None of the proposals currently “on the table” will even come close to achieving the oft cited goals of significantly reducing costs and making high-quality, affordable healthcare available to all. The medical-industrial complex has thrown its massive resources into making sure that the one solution which can deliver on those goals – Single Payer, Medicare For All – is completely shut out of the discussion.
NOW is the time to take action!
As always, power will concede nothing without a concerted long-term grassroots struggle, which is what it will take to get Single Payer passed into legislation. And as Congress and the President engage in an industry-orchestrated distraction, the movement for single payer is gaining steam. Groups across the U.S. are taking action, as evidenced in a recent segment of Democracy Now! with Dr. Paul Hochfeld, a Mad As Hell Doctor, and Kevin Zeese of Patients Not Profits.
