In response to internet rumors that the PPU was in some way involved with organization or planning of last nights capitol playhouse "protest" we have started this Oly Blog account. The PPU has never and will never have anything to do with thoughtless self congratulation. Our tactics are peaceful and aimed at furthering our cause, not sabotaging it. We formally ask all non PPU members to never associate our name with anything, ever. If the PPU chooses to affiliate with a particular cause or action it will be done according to the PPU bylaws and will be well advertised. When the PPU acts, you will know it is the PPU. If there is confusion as to whether or not we are sponsoring and action, then we ARE NOT SPONSORING IT.

The PPU is opposed to the sidewalk ordinance and is working on implementing viable strategies for overturning it. We have much bigger fish to fry than little Jeff Kingsbury.

Also, consider this an official PPU statement: At the playhouse "protest" at least two PPU members (when went to keep the peace and from letting little evergreen teenagers destroy our movement) over heard people sympathetic to our cause making derogatory statements about Jeff Kingsbury based on his sexuality. This is disgusting and intolerable. Hate in any form will be opposed and fought by the PPU whether its the classist city council or the homophobic left. We must never EVER let our movement for social justice degrade into hate. Jeff Kingsbury is deserving of criticism, but for the DECISIONS he's made, NEVER for who he is. This is the position of the PPU.

abstinence of slanted and empty "justice"

i absolutely, including my contributors and fellow organizers do not condone bigotry against Jeff Kingsbury's sexual orientation or anyone else's for that matter. last night's meeting was adjourned to discuss the issues of the ordinance, blockade free - in order to provide awareness of the current scheme conducted by the olympia city council. this has no connection with Kingsbury's orientation. However, i feel that the opposition against going directly to a member of the city council members public business is both confusing and creates those out to defy the ordinance seem like we are shaking in our shorts.

why not confront? why not create specific conflict?

why not single out a member of the city council in his own ballpark?

it is obvious to me and many others that going about defying or upturning the ordinance in a bureaucratic fashion is utterly spineless, unproductive and infantile.

in retort to statements about the blockade, i must defend myself - the initial idea was to blockade the capital playhouse, but on further notice i was made aware of the playhouse being a childrens theatre and that there might be children involved, the blockade was called off, but may i add....

where is our backbone? where is the spine of the revolutionary movement?

do we honestly expect the council to hear us out?

this ordinance was passed with little or no input from the communtiy itself

it was manifested, conducted and proposed by the upper crust of Olympia.

to put it in simple terms, FUCK THAT.

theorize, politicize and discuss to your heart's content.

i believe in my right to peacefully disrupt, defame and act.

where are your scruples?

we will discuss ourselves in to submission, and i'm exhausted from the dogmatic and constant watered-down politics of olympia.

are you going to sit there and take this?

for further explanation, a number of people advocate direct action, and quite frankly....

this community seems to only be capable of direct entropy.

if we go about this referendum the "just" way,

will they not attempt to pass a similar ordinance next year?

wake up.

nothing personal about this,

just an enraged opinon.

and to clarify, the PPU were not asked to be involved, therefore it is your duty to clarify your stance,  i offer my respect.

this was an independent act.

one other point

It can be fair to say that Jeff Kingsbury's business is profiting by this ordinance.  He passed a law which he believes will improve his bottom line.  It seems to me the he should have abstained from the voting.  People passing laws that benefit their own business, that is not what government should be about.

"I would make it impossible for the covetous and avaricious to utterly impoverish the poor. The rich can take care of themselves."

I will agree with you on

I will agree with you on that point.

wordplay

"Jeff Kingsbury is deserving of criticism, but for the DECISIONS he's made, NEVER for who he is. This is the position of the PPU."

and that is exactly the point of the capital playhouse congregation. it was attacking Kingsbury, the "politician":, not Kingsbury, the citizen.

Hard to see how the protest was...

Hard to see how the protest was anything more than self-indulgent posturing. I didn't attend, but the statements in comments here back that up. The idea of politics isn't to prove "the spine of the revolutionary movement" but to make a community's decisions. The PPU makes the critical distinction between the person and the position, slogvomit can't seem to. That may be emotionally satisfying, but it's not likely to be very effective.
