Three longtime residents of the Bread and Roses Women's Guesthouse have finally found a place to live, and have been approved to move in this weekend. However, at this time they are unable to pay the entirety of their deposit and are in desperate need of a financial contribution from a caring person/ persons/charity/church/organization/ what-have-you. They need $450 total, and if we can get people in the community to contribute half of it, Bread and Roses can match it and they can have a wonderful home to move into for Christmas.

These women are outstanding people, and have overcome adversity, challenged the stronghold of poverty and chronic homelessness, and worked tirelessly to contribute back to our community. They are on the brink of beginning a new life, and are more than deserving of the opportunities that we often take for granted, such as a place to live.

Their deposit needs to be in place by tomorrow, and as a community I think we owe these women a chance at a new life. All they are asking for is $225, which is not very much at all. I have called everywhere for assistance, and all of the organizations are completely tapped out until January, which will be far too late for these three. Please consider helping them, they REALLY need it!

If you would like to help out, please call Cassie at the Bread and Roses Advocacy Center at 754-4588. I will be here until 4:30, and can be reached on my cellphone any time after that at 870-5996.

Time is of the essence, so if you want to act, please do so today! Thank you so much!

In Love,
Cassie

Rent?

How are they gonna pay the rent once they move in? Is this going to happen every month?

But I am Just Another Voice

»

deposits vs rent

deposits are much harder to make then rent. it usually takes first, last and cleaning to move in. thats alot of money. i find that people can make the rent, the deposits are what makes housing inaccessible for many. the local churches, especially evergreen christian and sacred heart do help with deposits but they really are tapped out right now. amy

Rent

These women are living on a fixed income with an automatic deposit going to their landlord each month for rent. They will always pay their rent, on time, without any problems. This will not happen every month, they only have to pay a deposit once. Just as Amy said, rent is usually not the problem, it is the deposits and extra fees that keep people out of housing.

Have You Met Your Goal?

If not, how far away are you?

Almost There!!!

We are just $272 shy of their TOTAL deposit before a Bread and Roses contribution. We have already exceeded the $225 already asked for, thanks to our amazing, generous (not to mention fast-acting) community. If you would like to contribute any more I will be in the office until 5:30, and Dorothy, Melissa, and Candaice have to pay their deposit at 6. From the bottom of my heart, thank you all so very much!

Thank You all so much.

This kind of thing really makes me remember why I do this work. I'm so proud of my community right now. I've lived next door to these women and we have been in each other's lives for a long time. It has been a struggle for them to overcome the streets, and addiction, and abuse and so much that most never have to. They've worked very hard and shown a tremendous amount of patience in order to get their lives to point where they can make it on their own.

Thank you so much for reaching out.

Reading this thread made me more sniffly than watching "It's a Wonderful Life." With guys like you around, Olympia will never be Potterville!

Potterville?

We're just a bunch of lefties, righties, greeners, (not sure of the opposite of greeners), hippies, yuppies, oldies, newies, Generation X, Y, or LMNOPers.

Some of us protest the war, some of us protest the protest and some of us protest protesting the protest.  Some use Macs.  Some use Windows.

All have feelings.

We way surpassed our goal and we're going to put the extra money toward housing assistance needs in the future. Thanks for all the help everybody.

We helped the women gather boxes and they'll be moving in today. You did this. Thank you.

After the holiday rush

Mrs. Anonymously (or is it Mrs. Larry) and I will inventory those wonderful household items that we are storing the the garage for apparently no reason and donate them to the ladies household.

I'll let you know when we get our act together and you can tell me how to deliver.
