There is no question
Submitted by Anonymously Larry on Thu, 08/23/2007 - 12:31pm.The online Olympian is there to generate revenue. Online advertising is limited in terms of what newspapers have been known as, but can be an effective tool for branding.
At the risk of sounding resentful, I'm going to say that the comments are as good as the webmaster. Olyblog runs beautifully, and we don't have a "master" per se, yet a community of docents and posters that care enough to not turn it into an all out war. I have to admit that I've changed my ways in defending my positions. Even when I've been somewhat baited on Olyblog, I don't succumb to my temptation to tell someone where the train stops. We don't have a rapid fire environment and I think that allows people to think through their responses to each other.
The other BIG plus is what seems to be a social atmosphere (get togethers at the Broho). I can't imagine sitting down to coffee with Spiceman or JeffB, but stranger things have happened.

Refuse to take the bait
Submitted by Sarah on Thu, 08/23/2007 - 12:50pm.I'm still learning that one, how to refuse to take the bait. I agree, rapid fire online environments probably breed more conflict. Slowing down is a good practice, even here on OlyBlog.
Being able to meet each other in person, and even when that doesn't happen, getting a chance to check out a person's profile and maybe even another blog, all that helps immensely. Humor does also.
Plus we here on OlyBlog have the shared though terrible knowledge of exactly where we live. No matter our political persuasion we all live on the shores of the flawed FLOD (fetid lake of doom a.k.a. Capitol Lake). This shared burden makes us a little more willing to cut each other the occasional slack.
You're Right.

Plus we get together for
Submitted by Norm on Thu, 08/23/2007 - 12:58pm.Plus we get together for coffee occasionally and have a brew down at the Broho. I think we do pretty well with one another most of the time. We get heated but when it comes down to it I think any of us would step up to help the other.
EDIT: PS paisley, you should come down tomorrow night. It's pretty fun.
It's WAY more than pretty fun

Slack? Slack? Where's my slack, you cruel woman? By providing that link you once again are performing that activity which seems to bring you eternal delight-- tormenting and taunting me! OK, so I made one tiny, little, good-intentioned error in judgment. Must I spend the rest of my mortal life (and perhaps beyond) writhing in guilt? Have a heart, madam!
Slack
Submitted by Sarah on Thu, 08/23/2007 - 1:55pm.We were all born with Original Slack some say, so you still got plenty.
As for your obvious guilt I suggest you take that up with the Caiman Master himself, Rick. Perhaps some volunteer work at his ranch feeding the toothy critters their nutria will appease the gods of vengeance.
Perhaps.
