Almost every week this is the "What's on the city council's plate this week" review. I don't cover everything, so if you want the full rundown, read the packet and agenda yourself.

Nothing much in the packet this week (maybe something about a "water plan" that I'll write about later, but it looks pretty daunting), except a little note from the "Committee of the Chairs" meeting on Tuesday night at 5p (report @ scribd):

There was preliminary discussion by and among 2007 Councilmembers about holding a Town Hall meeting on April 22 (Earth Day) at Olympia High School. The suggested topic was Climate Change/Sea Level Rise.

...

BACKGROUND: As part of the Council’s 2004 Open Government initiative, Councilmembers – at that time – committed to holding two Town Hall meetings each year on topics identified by the City Council.

A preliminary date and theme for April 22, 2008 was identified by the 2007 Council. No additional planning activity has occurred, and no meeting space has been reserved. The Olympia Center is not available on April 22.

It looks like they don't have anything to talk to us about. So, outside of sea leve rise, can anyone think of anything else they'd like to talk to the city council about?

Maybe the box of rotting

Maybe the box of rotting foodstuffs at the entrance to the building department, it was meant as an example of a good composting bin, the only thing it is an example of is a terrible stench. We should talk about either one, sea level rise or rotting box of leftovers...doesn't matter

it is a wormbin

Sorry, was not up on the

Sorry, was not up on the differences...it is a worm bin, now that I think about it...please forgive me...still stinks though

biotic processes...

...are stinky...smell your own food waste & feces and I think you will agree...

Personally, I'd rather leave this work to the worms and bacteria...

...but hey, if the reek is too obnoxious, then bring it up!

ummmmm...

AFFORDABLE DOWNTOWN HOUSING!!! sheesh.
»

I was totally kidding about

I was totally kidding about the worm bin, I really don't care, it was to get a reaction out of Emmett. Market rate housing downtown is absolutely a priority.

Clarification

I wasn't sheeshing you, I was sheeshing the city council. They all ran on a platform of putting housing downtown, they signed over a city lot to a condo developer, it's not like they haven't been moving on the issue. The one thing they haven't been doing is seeking public input.

It is kind of discouraging though. If we have council members more concerned with making a political mark on a political career than listening and responding to the people who live in Olympia than why have a town hall at all? Seriously, if they can't find ANYTHING to talk about, with all that there is to bring up, they are not acting in our interest.
