The City Urban Forestry Department has checked to see if any City department had directed the tree to be cut down and found that the homeowner at 339 Milroy who had told us that the City had condemned the tree was not telling the truth. And Sunrise Tree Service who told us they were working for the City was not in fact working for the City. Is this a scam on the part of sunrise tree service? We had called Micki at the City Urban Forestry Program 3 times yesterday to ask if the City was responsible for the tree cutting and she had only said she would send an engineer out to take a look. An engineer never came but a City of Olympia truck did come from the Building Department and did observe the tree cutting for awhile, then left. The City Urban Forestry Program is busy getting ready for the biggest tree planting in their history and reconfirmed their intent to work with the public on climate change and urban forests. That's great and let's all support them. Pat Rasmussen ---- from michael (flyfreeasabird): I have posted this article because i am passionate about trees in olympia. I am grateful for all the support that i have seen in the comments and also grateful for the clarity that has come about throughout the day. I am saddened by the loss of this tree as it was a landmark for me in passing through that neighborhood and the jackson street community garden. I will continue to post updates as i recieve them. peace, ~michael
