I read in the Olympian today about Doug Mah's announcement of his intention to run for mayor, which wasn't a surprise. But I also noticed that two Thurston County Planning Commissioners (Craig Ottavelli and Rhenda Strub) announced they would be running for city council, with a third Planning Commissioner saying that she was considering running. I'm wondering if anyone knows anything about these people and why there would suddenly be a bunch of planning commissioners trying to get on the council.  It seemed sort of odd to me. Seems like this would be a great place to share any knowledge that any of us have about   the candidates.

Its because there are forces at work..

RE: "I'm wondering if anyone knows anything about these people and why there would suddenly be a bunch of planning commissioners trying to get on the council..."

Its because there are forces at work that want to turn Olympia into Lacey..

These forces take their cues from The Olympian newspaper..

They want to oust TJ Johnson because he dissed that stupid nuclear submarine, The USS Lacey, or whatever its called...

Ya know, one can only take

Ya know, one can only take so much of your garbage, bubbaz.  Listen, it is called the USS Olympia and was named for our city.  Although, in hindsight, it probably should have been called the USS Lacey.

The Olympian?  Really?  You give them too much credit.

Let's see if you can back up

Let's see if you can back up your comment with fact.  Who wants Olympia to be like Lacey?  Show us where this is the plan.  You suggest "these forces" take their cues from The Olympian.  Explain what you mean and who these forces are.  I'm calling your bullsh*t.  I'd like for you to either speak truths based on fact or quit the crap.  I have a feeling other bloggers coming to your defense is wishful thinking.  I think you owe more to Annie.

You spout out what's off the top of your head instead of researching the information and posting fact.  Personally, I'm tired of it, but I'm not going anywhere.

I read that article when it

I read that article when it was published and the first thing that came to mind was the Olympia Brewery.  See, my grandfather was a foreman there for many, many years.  Several major factors led to the fall of the brewery.  One of the more prevelant reasons was investing in the future.  The brewery rested on its laurels.  They didn't keep with the times and fell far behind in technological advances.  When the time came to compete and be profitable at the same time, the total cost of production was a limiting factor.  Why?  They didn't do anyting to make their lives easier.  Olympia is at a similar crossroads.  While I don't think the city is going to fall off the map, they have an opportunity.  An opportunity to get with the times.

The article is quite clear about who is easier to work with.  It made clear to me that Lacey is interested in growth while Olympia could really care less (otherwise you'd figure out your permit process).  I don't want Olympia to be easy in the sense that they bypass all checks (enviro, etc.).  But, I do wish they'd figure out if they are coming or going.  I live on the Westside between Cooper Point and 14th and I have to say, construction is happening!  From the corner of Kaiser and Mud Bay, to Kaiser and 14th, to Cooper Crest, to Walnut, to the land across from Goldcrest, construction is frenzied...
