At the end of June, renowned mythologist and storyteller Michael Meade visited Olympia. Community Youth Services and the Mosaic Multicultural Foundation conducted a week-long series of workshops for young people to create spoken word about their dreams, hopes and aspirations. YAYA Media was privileged to be part of those workshops and document the event on videotape.

I really can't say enough

I really can't say enough about this performance to recommend it eloquently. I was there at the show and I cannot tell you what an emotional effect it had on me and the rest of the audience. These young adults sharing their heartfelt, heart-wrenching, heart-warming poetry and performance art in front of a packed house made me yearn for even more from each and every one of the performers. For a real treat and some remarkable insight to the youth our culture is supporting (or not supporting), please watch this video. These are youth from Olympia, mostly raised in Olympia, and they deserve this voice in the community.

Michael Meade is one of the

Michael Meade is one of the most intuitive teachers I've ever had the pleasure to work with. He was heavily involved in the "Men's Movement" back in the late 80's, into the early 90's, working with Robert Bly and James Hillman. He lives on Vashon Island and began working with inner city youth in the early 90's. His work with youth honors the spirit of youth in a way that is the complete opposite of Madison Avenue, which has managed to turn youth into a commodity to bought and sold on the open market. This video is wonderful to have here on OlyBlog. Thank you for posting it.
