Yet another example of common sense.

Hat tip to Sayanything.com, Newsbuster.org

"It is the greatest scam in history. I am amazed, appalled and highly offended by it. Global Warming; It is a SCAM. Some dastardly scientists with environmental and political motives manipulated long term scientific data to create in [sic] allusion of rapid global warming. Other scientists of the same environmental whacko type jumped into the circle to support and broaden the “research” to further enhance the totally slanted, bogus global warming claims. Their friends in government steered huge research grants their way to keep the movement going. Soon they claimed to be a consensus.

Environmental extremists, notable politicians among them, then teamed up with movie, media and other liberal, environmentalist journalists to create this wild “scientific” scenario of the civilization threatening environmental consequences from Global Warming unless we adhere to their radical agenda. Now their ridiculous manipulated science has been accepted as fact and become a cornerstone issue for CNN, CBS, NBC, the Democratic Political Party, the Governor of California, school teachers and, in many cases, well informed but very gullible environmental conscientious citizens. Only one reporter at ABC has been allowed to counter the Global Warming frenzy with one 15 minutes documentary segment."

I am sure that John Coleman will never hear the end of this for not toeing the line.

That's the nice thing about data

people can present cogent analyses to test their hypotheses and share the results with the world and their peers. Regarding climate change, I see few if any analyses standing up to the time-tested standards of peer review that convince me the majority of scientists are incorrect. Instead, doubters are left to create the spector of a vast conspiracy fueled by the "liberal agenda" and grant money. If it was that easy to manipulate everyone, why aren't also talking about "global queering" and why the hell didn't the "liberal agenda" keep us out of Iraq? Perhaps because the conspiracy theory is ... not credible.

Oh, come on Goog...

This is so very clearly a conspiracy.  You know how scientists are, what with "evilution" and all.  The devil did it.  He's the mastermind.  When he was planting dinosaur bones in the ground (to turn scientists into atheists) he also took a little time to plant some carbon grime in the antarctic ice (to turn the scientists against our saviors in the Republican party).  This is so obvious.

Duh. Like, get with the program, dude.

It would be nice if John

It would be nice if John Coleman is right. All I can say is I remember when The Olympic Mountains were white year round.

Damn the United States! I wish I may never hear of the United States again!

Clearly

the rates at which ice caps melt have nothing to do with global temperature.
»

Clearly!

I'm gonna go skiing this afternoon cause of all the snowfall lately too.
»

Don't go confusing the short-term

noise with long-term trends.
»

I'm confused now

Did that make sense with my comment? I don't get it.

»

I just thought you were suggesting

something contrarian based on recent snowfall in our mountains.
»

Was there snowfall?

Honestly I was being facetious. I didn't hear about the snowfall, I'm not going skiing, and I don't think that just because it snows that global warming isn't happening.
»

I didn't think you were one of those.

And, yes, we did get some early snow this year, but no one is skiing. Anyway, I pegged you as an inner-tuber.
»

more like...

... an inner goober.
»

Absolutely!

Oh, and I did ski last year....if I would have had you and Rob with me it could have been 3 stooges, but it was just me making an idiot out of myself?
»

I'm quite certain that

skiing is way too bourgeois for Rob. He's definately an inner-tuber.

what's the deal with inner-tubes?!

Scientists Enhance Mother Nature's Carbon Handling Mechanism

ScienceDaily (Nov. 8, 2007) — Taking a page from Nature herself, a team of researchers developed a method to enhance removal of carbon dioxide from the atmosphere and place it in the Earth's oceans for storage.

Unlike other proposed ocean sequestration processes, the new technology does not make the oceans more acid and may be beneficial to coral reefs. The process is a manipulation of the natural weathering of volcanic silicate rocks. Reporting in Nov. 7 issue of Environmental Science and Technology, the Harvard and Penn State team explained their method.

"The technology involves selectively removing acid from the ocean in a way that might enable us to turn back the clock on global warming," says Kurt Zenz House, graduate student in Earth and planetary sciences, Harvard University. "Essentially, our technology dramatically accelerates a cleaning process that Nature herself uses for greenhouse gas accumulation."

In natural silicate weathering, carbon dioxide from the atmosphere dissolves in fresh water and forms weak carbonic acid. As the water percolates through the soil and rocks, the carbonic acid converts to a solution of alkaline carbonate salts. This water eventually flows into the ocean and increases its alkalinity. An alkaline ocean can hold dissolved carbon, while an acidic one will release the carbon back into the atmosphere. The more weathering, the more carbon is transferred to the ocean where some of it eventually becomes part of the sea bottom sediments. http://www.sciencedaily.com/releases/2007/11/071107074316.htm

Someone please explain

"Some dastardly scientists with environmental and political motives"

Who benefits from "scamming" the entire world community on the issue of global warming and its possible origins being man made?  Is there some prize to be won?

Now, if this is going to go down the road of "scientists creating a job for themselves" I think we all know that there are plenty of scientific studies that need additional help that could keep people employed for a long time.

I understand the value of certain businesses not wanting to take responsibility for contributing to the problem because they might have to INVEST in improving certain ways of doing business.  Thus, an irresponsible business that is motivated only by "saving money" might want to avoid the possible truth to global warming's origins being man made, but I fail to see what value there is in "scamming" the public in believing that global warming isn't (a) real and (b) man made.

It is an odd disconnect

The climate change denier community's claim that it's all a scam, relies on the assumption that scientists have something to gain, like grant money. And the incentive for that grant money is enough to over-ride the incentives of all of the world's carbon-based fuel providers and associated industries. Unbelievable! And if incentives for grant money are all you need, why is there only one big scam worth talking about?
»

The same rationale

was used for the opposition of Proposition 1.  People actually tried to claim that there is no evidence based program that works in terms of detering kids from eventual criminal behavior or said that evidence had been contrived to skew the outcome.

Two things come to mind in response (1) because we have found no cure for cancer, do we throw in the towel? and (2) when you don't know about the evidence based program, that could be because you were unwilling to see that it exists.

We DO NOT KNOW FOR SURE about the origin of global warming, but what is there to loose by taking the CONSERVATIVE approach in terms of not denying all possibilities?

being a scientist

what does that mean on this blog?

is >being a scientist< a bad thing?

I have done LOTS of climatology, the science of it--

I find the bulk of this dialog is offensive, since it it not posted to really discuss between peers, but posted instead as a continuation of a left vs right or us vs them kind of rant--

There is lots of discussion and give & take inside of the scientific community, but outside of that most folks just polarize around sound bites they don't even understand--

What is the point of talking about global warming if you don't know what you are talking about, and are not gonna follow any kind of rational discussing it?

Conspiracy?! << that is so whacked (PS if this is a joke thread or something I didn't get it)

»

It's no joke

Tsch and company are convinced that the science around climate change is driven by grant money and the liberal agenda. It's hard to have a rational discussion about climate change when the conversation is premissed on such an absurd hypothesis. You're right.
