The potential that is latent in this "blog-space" overwhelms me...

To some extent >I muse< most 'bloggers must post out of no concern or expectation that "their posting(s)" will be read or commented on.

--I muse on this as I think about what I should do with my OlyBlog blog--

I ponder if there is inherent hostility (or at least angsty vibes) in this kind of perceived/shared space...

And also >about content< "what makes my content local, Olympia content"

...but that is a secondary concern at most, and certainly not gonna keep me from posting about gaming or rants, etc...

I like the idea that OlyBlog be "about" local stuff thou-

I thought about using this space for a writing post (fiction/fantasy), but nixed that idea

hmmm... maybe ASCII art? >seems a poor use of a blog<

Analysis of dreams...

...seems to be the current fad.

When you think of the long and gloomy history of man, you will find more hideous crimes have been committed in the name of obedience than have ever been committed in the name of rebellion. -C.P. Snow

I'm guilty of not staying local. I tend to blog about things that interest me. Sometimes I blog about problems (public) that I have in life, or ask a question that I just want some more input on. I would start with what excites you. If you have a day where you find you are really jazzed about something, share it with us! :)

Local smchocal

I wouldn't worry too much about wether or not your blogging is hyperlocal or not. I think people very much appreciate any efforts in that direction, but I've found the community to be receptive to a variety of postings. Especially ASCII art.

You have this space. It's yours. Fly with it, baby, until those autocratic, ivory tower, dialectical process humorless docents who control every post and comment kick you out. Yes, they are a cruel bunch. I'm told they have long and drawn-out board meetings during expensive lunches while deciding when and where to apply the "Access Denied" message. Once I crashed their meeting and asked them why they did this, and they just threw back their collective heads and let loose with a cacophony of evil laughs. Rob Whitlock was the very worst when it came to emitting that chilling sound. You'd never guess, since he comes across as such a decent and great guy. But he's bad to the bone, let me tell you. I'm lucky he didn't unleash that giant reptile he kept by his side.

I personally get yawn weary of the partisan political left/right, Democrat/Republican, Dad-he-looked-at-me-funny! -- Well, she started it! self-absorbed nonsense and prefer a good dose of off-the-wallness. Outside the borders is good. So it isn't hyperlocal. So they won't post it on the frontpage. Big deal. I, for one, would love to see what kind of non-hyperlocal creative material you possess in your cranium. OlyBlog is in dire need of what you have to offer.

Plus, if you live in the Oly area (which is more than I can say for myself), that automatically makes anything you post "hyperlocal." The docents having a say over the form of the discussions is one thing, but the content is quite another. We are taking part in a great experiment, and I encourage you to be original and contribute something new.

Maybe instead of giving

Maybe instead of giving movies the silhouetted MST3K treatment, we can do it to the city council meetings.

It's the same old story - Everywhere I go, I get slandered, Libeled, I hear words I never heard in the bible

That would be funny

Remember the naked preacher on local access? That would have been funny too. But I can see definite possibilities with the council meetings. Mystery Policy Theater...

Not the Naked Preacher!

Sometimes memory repression is a good thing!

Goodness

You must have been a tender young child at the time. I can only guess at the longterm psychological trauma...so much makes sense now.
