Earlier I asked what you would change about Oly, essentially what was wrong with Oly.  Now I am asking what you like, what is right about Oly.

I like the people.  This is a funky weird wonderful town.  I may not agree with or support some of the folks in this town, but I still love the place for 'em.  Greeners, hippies, anarchists, gun toting libertarians, politicians, uber conservatives, loggers, and treehuggers, hunters and vegans, this town in a very interesting melting pot.

Great Question...

The beautiful natural areas with nature trails and the climate that supports walking all year long.

The admirable passion for justice that I see in so many activists and volunteers.

The opportunity to learn about social justice issues by attending free events.

The ability to be as resourceful as I like and feel good about being environmentally responsible at the same time.

THE PUBLIC TRANSPORTATION!! :D

All that Chia said

plus the creative facial hair. I saw a man riding his bike downtown today and his big white beard was flying behind him like a scarf. I also echo those who said this is a great place to raise kids. That's one of the main reasons we moved here as well.

I love...

I love raising my kids here.  I love that my son has five favorite parks- the one by the boats (downtown), Benvelo (bigelow), 'Peace' Point, the frog one (Decatur Woods- he saw a frog there like 2 years ago) and burfoot.

I love the free wall and the fact that it is in the core of downtown.

I love the sense of place- thinking about what it means to be at the very end of a unique body of water.  That there is nothing like the Olympic Penninsula anywhere else in the world.  That downtown lies in a valley and everything flows to it.

I love that we are the greenest capital city in the country, in all senses of the word.  I just wish we would behave like a capital more often.

I love the business people downtown and, unlike most business districts I've visited, the owners represent a real cross-section of the greater population.  Ecclectic doesn't begin to describe the people of this community.

damn

I came into this thread all ready to write something...but Katherine's comment is too excellent. In many ways what she says sums up why my little family moved here to see to the raising of our daughter.

I know, right?

I love the park names! Thanks Katherine. What else do ya say?
I like that Oly is small but holds so many secrets. I like that Oly is big but gather three or four neighbors and it seems like the whole town is with you.

The Rain

is one of the best things about Olympia. Gimmie a slate colored sky and a steady 45 degree drizzle and I'm in paradise. To rip off M. Stipe It's a memory kind of sky.
