Where do you go for live music and who plays there? Inquiring minds want to know. I'm thinking of the noise ordinance a bit here.
Also, I'd like to know what you usually spend when you go to see live music. You know, cover, beer, coffee, food etc.
Who do you go hear, where do you hear 'em & whaddya spend?

Beer, food, booze.
Life's a reach, then you jibe.But six...
whatever Irish group
They have on Wednesday...
Life's a reach, then you jibe.Fair enough
Barely read your post
Sorry I skimmed it initially. Probably spend about $20-30 if I am going to be up there listening. $10 or so on a meal, two drinks, tips and tax... Couldn't tell you the group's name but Tugboat Annie's website has details on live groups... I'm just fried from a long week at work..
Life's a reach, then you jibe. The Annie's website seems to be...
"S6 tweaks Yoda's nose...
and runs the other direction."
Okay, the page is being modified. I didn't know that. Sorry. How about when I go up there for happy hour tomorrow I get you a schedule and post it here? :-)
EDIT: Try this page.
Life's a reach, then you jibe.Thanks...
Here are some of my faves
The Track House
Located down by the railroad tunnel, the track house has a long history of great shows. Most recently I saw the Hail Seizures and Blackbird Raum. The shows are almost always free.
The Phoenix House
Also a historic Olympia punk house. I've seen Mt. Eerie, The Moools (from Japan!), Funerot and Numbers there to name a few. The most I've ever paid is $5.
The Lucky Seven House
Located right next to the Lucky Seven store. I played there and saw Joey Casio after Artswalk. The show was pay-what-you-can.
The Red House
I hear it used to be red. This house is on the corner of 8th and Jefferson (I think) kind of right across the street from the post office. I've seen Scream Club, Infinity Gauntlet and Wolves in the Throne Room. The shows have been $3-5 sliding scale or free.
The ABC House
This is a west side favorite. I've seen Lil' Runt, Yer Heart Breaks and the Dandilion Junk Queens. Shows have never been more than $5
Last but not least,
The Manium (RIP)
God, lets see... I've seen (just to name a very few), Submission Hold, MDC, Skarp, Wolves in the Throne Room (more recently), Mecca Normal, The Blow. Basically to many bands to name. The Manium was the heart beat of the Olympia music scene for a while there. We're all kind of lost without it. I've never paid more than $8 for a show. If you were short you could volunteer to clean up afterwards and still get in.
All of these venues are all ages. 21+ bar shows are antithetical to a strong DIY music scene. I understand bands have to make money when they play and bars will pay you better and that makes me a little sad. It totally changes the dynamic when most of the people who come out for the show are also getting totally wasted. Just my two cents.
Ohhhh! I almost forgot
The Midnight Sun
I've seen Rose Melberg and Limpwrist there.
(I tried linking each of the bands, but the little link making tool just gives me a blank window)
Thanks for your input!
damn
Sorry I missed this post. I just pushed it to the front page but...alas...the front page pushed it to page two.

S'all good...
Tumwater
I like my livingroom...
You flatter yourself too much
I understand banjos make great boat paddles. You wouldn't be from some backwoods place that don't take kindly to strangers would you? Live on a river?
Life's a reach, then you jibe. For years, I'd go to the old T-Bar...
...they had music every night for free.
I used to go to open mics alot. THere was the OLMS (Olympia Live Music Society) open mics at the Columbia Street Pub and they also ran it out of the Fourth Ave Tav. I'm not sure if OLMS is still around. Rob Hill ran it, last I heard.
There used to be a City Light's open mic at the Java Flow and later at All That Jazz.
Hannah's had one of the longest running open mics. I'm not sure nowadays.
The Westside Tavern is doing open mics on Mondays and Tugboat Annie's is doing them on Tuesday, I think. (security_six: If you read this and you're having drinks, chime in at let us know what kind of music you're hearing..)
I hear all of the Jazz heads have moved from the old Spar to Ben Moore's.
