When I'm out and about, I'm often on foot or on bike. Periodically, I'll get yelled at. "Get a car!" or "Grow up!" At least I think that's what they said... most often it's completely unintelligible. It seems like yelling out car windows is a popular pastime, especially on the Westside. For clarification, they're not yelling at my behavior - I'm a strict rule-follower.

Does anyone else have similar experiences, or am I just a magnet for the loud ones?

I got drive-by egged once...

...on the westside. Saw some idiots in a black SUV on Sunday, yelling at pedestrians downtown.
»

No way!

That totally sucks. Did they get ya?

Once in California a kid going like 35 mph intentionally tapped me on the back while I was biking. I almost bit it and just about hit a parked car. I was so mad that I peddled really hard to catch up and get their license plate number, but I'm not that fast. Stupid high school kids need to take physics.

Yeah. It was a leg hit.

Eggs hurt, man. Walking around with egg on your leg isn't so great either. I had to eggscuse myself from the event I was attending. Quite a blow to one's eggo.

It's ova now.

It's ova now.

Eggcellent ...

...a yolk at my eggspense.

leggo, man

Quite eggstraordinary indeed. The huevos on those kids to do such a thing!

When I was a rowdy youth...

Well, when I should have been a rowdier youth, my friends and I would go driving around Tacoma late at night in my 1968 Rambler American. For some reason, we thought it was great fun to slow down and yodel at guys we passed on the street, then speed away laughing like we'd just done the funniest thing in the world. I'll never understand why.

I often

I often yell at fixed gear riders to get a freewheel. Psh. Fixie riders.
»

Yeah, what's with those fixies anyway?

...
»

Downhill

I just laugh at them when they're pedaling frantically while going down Harrison hill. I once saw sparks come out the back while a fixed-gear had to "break" at the roundabout.
»

Fixies:

More proof that being 19 to 26 y.o. means being really, really stupid. And Immortal. Just like I was when taking the same hill on a skateboard.

When I was in high school,

When I was in high school, after a boys' basketball game in Aberdeen, some friends and I threw a doughnut at some girl.

And borrowing from Gug...

then speed away laughing like we'd just done the funniest thing in the world. I'll never understand why.

I think about it now and it was just stupid. That doesn't begin to scratch the surface of our stupidity, though.

I Yelled

Saturday night.  On my way down to the Crippler for some music in which I had friends in the bands playing (Special Guests, Win Win, Ordinary States).  Heading down Harrison hill I was in the left lane and had 4 youths (early high schoolish) riding their dirt bikes down the hill in both lanes.  It was sometime after 9pm.  Dark as could be if you know Harrison after hours.  No reflective material, no lights, nothing.  Somebody's gonna get hurt.

So You're The Bully?

You made my friends son cry and scared him to death!

Just Kidding!  LOL!

Been there

It's been a good few years, but I remember yelling at cyclists to get a car. It's all about the granola-hate. You hit 16 and you have a CAR. It's the best damn thing in the world. Why on Earth would some nutbar want to ride around on a bicycle????

Bikes

I guess the riders before you have not left the best impression with the car people. I have had instances in both Olympia and Eugene were bike-riders have hit my car and obstructed my path and almost caused an accident. I often get the vibe from them that they feel superior because they choose a bike, and because I do not. So they get upset and act like a spazz. I guess it's my fault that I have a car, and need to travel great distances to help treat water...

Yes, moreso recently,

I have noticed an increase, recently, in the types of behavior that you're describing. What's up with it? Is there a new video out that advocates yelling at pedestrians?

Personally, I feel disrespected a lot by people in cars when I am foot or bike.

I've had "Faggot" shouted at me quite a bit

I've had "Faggot" shouted at me quite a bit. That seems to be a popular epithet. I like shouting at cyclists because, a lot of the time, I am one. Plus I'm a bike nerd so, you know, it's okay for me. I think the car-to-pedestrian behavior I hate the most is the unwanted solicitations. I either witness or hear about these pretty often. It's disgusting, threatening and rude. I don't know what type of person does stuff like that, but I hope the Black Bloc finds them and smashes in their windows. For real.
