I don't normally paste other's comments from other sites but I did find this LTE in the Daily Zero intersting, especially the last lines.

"Freedom is worth fighting for

How great it would be to live in a world free from strife and hatred — a world where peace would be assured. But we do not. So, we must be willing to stand against those who would destroy us. If we do not, we will sacrifice our children to tyranny and betray those who have fought and died for our freedom. If I were to turn my back on the struggle for freedom going on in Iraq and throughout the world, I would be dishonoring my own father, who risked his life fighting for his country in the Philippines, ultimately earning him the Congressional Medal of Honor.

Likewise, I would be dishonoring my father-in-law, who was severely injured in combat in France and as a result had to spend the rest of his life disabled and in pain. And what about the 2,500 American GIs who willingly gave up their lives in a single battle in Normandy, and the multitude of other patriots who have fought and died to secure our freedom?

We are in a battle for survival, individually and as a citizen. The war on terror is not a bumper sticker slogan; it is real and as frightening as any war that we have ever fought. Life and honor are at stake. President Bush is not the problem; the attack on America by radical Islamic fundamentalists began long before Bush hatred united the left into a frenzy of character assassination.

I do believe what he says is true. What people either forget or like to ignore is that America was being attacked by radical fundamentalists long before the hated "Bushco" as some wag dubbed them, came along. Anyone who thinks otherwise seems to have their heads in the sand or is so blinded by hatred/dislike of the current President and Vice-President.

The war was voted on and approved, by both Republicans AND Democrats. Yes, the Democrats now complain that they were "dupped" into it with false info. I don't buy into this arguement much. Either they didn't do their own homework on the subject and voted like lemmings, (while representing you at the time), or did their own homework and came to the same conclusion, (Hillary Clinton). Since Hillary was running the country before Bush came along, she had to have known a lot of intel. While I am no fan of her, she is a smart lady and would not just vote for something this big without doing some major CYA.

Good post, Vincent!

As you know, I DO copy and paste from The Olympian and will hopefully do some reporting on The News Tribune and The Nisqually Valley News in the near future. These are media that impact our community and are well worth discussing. I'm going to speak to the comments of your source, but I'm guessing that you endorse them as you don't stipulate otherwise. There seems to be an attempt to continue a "talking point" (sorry, can't come up with another term) about "so and so Democrat voted for the war", but a key point is left out of this - the information from which they made their decision was false. I think, as investigation continues, dispite attempt by the Administration to hide behind "executive privilege", that we will find out that the information was more than false, but manufactured (opinion on my part). "War on terror" knows no actual enemy, thus is infinite. I pose the rhetorical question - "How do you win the war on terror?". Today's winner in the war on terror becomes tomorrow terrorist - think about it. We are dealing in concepts. Today, Islamics are pointed at as terrorists. Who will be the next "terrorist"? It reminds me of Robin Williams line from "Good Morning Viet Nam" - something like "if you kick out the gooks, then you have to kick out the chinks, the jigs, the hebs, and everyone else and all you end up with is a couple of brain dead rednecks". Who becomes the next terrorist? Right now, our people are being killed by Al Queda from Saudi Arabia and we're being told that Iran is the next bad guy. Sorry, just doesn't make sense to me. I don't have the time to really continue on this, but commend your blog and look forward to others comments when I return late tonight. Have a great day.

Appreciate your reply...

I have to say that I do my best not to lean too far one way or another although I am a fiscal and social conservative in life. Although you point out that the information that the Dems had was "false", I use the "_" just because, not because I necessarily disagree, I truly believe that they had intel of their own as well. I have tried to find reference to this but what Democrat worth their constituency is going to boast that they voted for the war in Iraq based on intel they gathered on their own? I hate to keep using a Clinton as an example but in this case, Hillary is the best. Does anyone really believe that she did not have some or a lot of inside info while Bill(hillary) was running the show? Of course she did! She is too smart and hated Bush enough even back then, (see the look on her face and her reaction during Bush's speach to Congress after the 9/11 attacks), not to check things out for herself. I suppose my other rather muddled point I am trying to make is that it doesn't matter who you support, Republican or Democrat, what does it say of our elected reps that they can turn around later and plead ignorace about something they voted for because of "false information". PLEASE!!!!! This just kills me! Do you think Republicans are just taking the word of Democrats when it comes to passing a Democrat-supported bill or motion? No! They have research of their own. I would hope that all elected reps would have their own research done, especially if it is a VOTE FOR WAR. Anyone that turns around later, Right or Left, and pleads ignorance because they were led astray, should be booted from office and a by-election held. These people represent us! I'm not a fan of Obama either but I at least respect him for saying, "I never voted for the war in the first place and I thought it was wrong from the start.", instead of others (Hillary), "I voted to invade Iraq based on the biased and false info presented to me by members of a political party I am in opposition of." There is something very fishy in all of this and no side is being truthful.

Just a post before I go....to whom it may concern.....

Big fan of Stephen Stills' music.....LOL

I think you're right in pointing the figure at BOTH parties.  The Dems were afraid of being called "terrorist sympathizers" for voting against war.....pretty damned intellectually dishonest, if you ask me.

According to Condi Rice, though, "we were using an intel program from the former Administration" was her quote (close as I can get, in  pinch) a few days after 9/11.  Thus, she was saying that they took charge in January and as of September hadn't changed Clinton's terrorist plan.   Yeah....uh huh.

You're right, Vince.  They are both having trouble with the truth.

Congressional research

Vince, I am not sure what "research" you expect a congressman or woman to be able to perform? Congress relies on the intel that is given them from the CIA, FBI, and other agencies that do this job for them. In this case, the "evidence" that the CIA had against Iraq was given to the administration and then days later, they were told by the CIA that is was false, but the administration STILL sold it to congress KNOWING it was bad. Do you really expect a congressman to travel to Iraq or Nigeria to try and sort out the mess themselves? And then what? be accused of undermining the administrations authority in doing so like Pelosi when she visited Syria????

So..

You are saying that all the different intelligence branches got together and decided to mislead the whole country, and in turn, the rest of the world about Iraq? You can't tell me that there is only one type of source that elected officals can use. Intel from friendly countries, etc? Just a thought. As much as the Republicans are covering up, the Dems are actively using the CYA method and lying for political gain. You need to be a little more objective about this and not turn it into a Republican vs. Democrat debate. When both parties are liars and deceivers, you still don't win.

I guess you haven't heard...

...about the office for special projects set up in the pentagon to stovepipe Iraq intelligence? There are lots of sources where you can learn about his, not the least of which is Sy Hersch with the New Yorker.
