Who is "Blanca Hope"? Why is she facebook friends with so many Olympians?

Are you "friends" with Blanca Hope? I first received the invitiation to be facebook friends with Blanca Hope about a week ago. I didn't think I knew her so I looked into who her other friends were and her facebook page. Soon I realized something fishy was up. The only item on her wall was a long, long list of people she had friended. No posts. No conversations back and forth. Nothing. - except for lots of people asking who she was. Now she is friends with nearly 500 people most of them folks that live in Olympia. She also seemed to have an inordinant amount of friends who were Olympia organizers. Yet that's not all - she is friends with tons of unrelated folks. From Amy Tousley and Brendan Williams to the "American Gandhi" Bernie Meyers and Oly Peroshki(and who doesn't like a Piroshki even if you don't really exist?). What is going on here? So beware - lots of info can be garnered from your facebook page - so don't be "friends" with just anyone.

Multiple Web Presence Personality Disorder

When I first started hanging out in the OlyBlogOSphere, I used my "pirate name", "Darkwater Kate"....

I wonder sometimes if this was a bad move on my part as I have a bit of an identity issue. Some people still insist on calling me "Kate"... and a few, "KC" from other web presence platforms.

I will admit to "sock puppeting" in my web pursuits, just a bit. Not for any nefarious purposes, more for nom de plume situations. I also used to enjoy historical re-inactment, so I got a few names from that.

Blanca Hope and Juliette Myra

I first got suspicious when a friend of mine was raising the alarm a little over someone named Juliette Myra who I had added as a friend. Forgot I had added Blanca Hope as well. Two similarly picture-less and sparse infoed requests that came in at the same time. I notice a lot of TESC/Oly related folks are being added.

I'm not normally a very paranoid person so I added them both thinking they may have just been people who I met at some point and don't remember. Looking back on it now... I suppose I should be more careful in the future about who I accept as friends on Facebook. Seems like some kind of creepy "info-mining" to me... yikes!

Amber McClinton and Sandy Imnottelling

I had this experience about a year ago, when two women who no one knew in real life suddenly had become friends with a lot of Olympia organizers. Amber was judged to be a 'sock puppet' or fake account, and Sandy turned out to be Sandy Kortjohn, the wife of a Tacoma Regional Intelligence Group 5 analyst. These two "met" us in April 2009, and Sandy was seen in person by a few folks at a demonstration in Tacoma. She also showed up in April to the NWAIDAC direct action proposal and volunteered for an intelligence position. By this time she had already been figured out, though tracking her specific identity took a little while longer.

We think she was using the sock puppet to forward information indirectly to the RIG 5 intelligence activity, in deniable fashion. If information had passed, and we found out about it, it would burn "Amber" and not Sandy.

This latest "White Hope" is probably some nazi who can't figure out that having a picture lessens the suspicion that you're datamining facebook. It also points out that if the datamining effort were backed by the Feds at a high enough level, it would simply use a National Security Letter to garner data directly from Facbook and not involve sketchy personalities either of the fake variety, or completed with legends (and operators such as Sandy Kortjohn). In other words, this the maybe at worst some cops, or someone who has no significant power like the NSM.

Oh, and the last time we saw Sandy and Amber doing this also happened to be just six weeks to a month before the movement of the 5/2 Strykers on May 1, 2009. Keep an eye out. We saw a Stryker on a flatbed truck heading south on I-5 Friday, heading for somewhere south of Olympia.

this is definitely a

this is definitely a fascinating thing to watch. i was amazed by how strong my response was to realizing that, since the blanca hope profile was a friend of one of my friends who doesn't know anyone else in olympia, apparently who/whatever had put the profile/s up must have gone through my (among numerous other) friends list to harvest new friends. i knew that was public data, but it's still weird to think of it under scrutiny/"mis"use.

but it seems silly if not stupid to friend someone you don't know. I got the Blanca request too and ignored it.
