Ignorant Movie Review: Year of the Dog

Response to title: Maybe a reference to the Chinese Zodiac? And Molly Shannon. I have some vague recollection of trying to ignore a trailer about relationships.

Response to curbside poster: I like the design. A kind've Napolean Dynamite meets Zip-a-dee Doo-Dah.

Response post-credits: An existential crisis dressed as a deadpan comedy, Year of the Dog dislodged laughter from me like popping a zit in front of a mirror. Which is to say, laughter bursts forth in vaguely uncomfortable, selfconscioius, splattered and amusing ways. While not a great film by any stretch of the imagination, this is a good and fun movie. Filled with recognizable character actors well versed in quirkiness, the film effectively pushes the willing suspension of disbelief until you just stop caring, and then you laugh.

I would definitely classify this as a good family movie (kids, grandparents and the like).

Rating: 3.52 out of 5 Oly Stubbies.
